Settlers of Catan coming to the iPhone

I'm also loving that The Secret of Monkey Island:Special Edition has been ported to the iPhone as well. I love the old Lucasarts games, and this Special Edition has redone graphics and complete voice acting.

Excellent news. Although I still think that Settlers plays best F2F (i.e. how do you threaten to move the Robber with a Soldier if someone intends to move the Robber next to your City!?), it'll be a nice time-waster on the train.

Meanwhile, I'll still play Lemonade Tycoon ;-)

If you can't wait, there's a Catan clone called Kolonists: http://www.getifun.com/kolonists/

Due to legal claims from Settlers of Catan, which we understand are unfair and without foundation, Kayxo A/S has decided to withdraw or Kolonists applications from the Appstore until clarifying this matter, including through judicial actions if required. We regret the inconveniences that this may cause. We hope to see you soon.
Got to love the world of the not so real.

Just in case anyone does want to purchase the Monkey Island Special Edition, yes the art and voice is cool, but the control scheme is without a doubt, one of the worst i've ever had the misfortune of using... be ye warned!

Although to be fair, i did manage to complete the game.

I quite liked it, it was like using a touchpad to control a mouse pointer. I think it made sense in a game where some click targets are smaller than a finger... The only real annoyance with it was when trying to reproduce the safe "combination".

I played the SE on the Xbox - what a great remake. I also am really enjoying Tales of Monkey Island, the new Monkey Island episodic game being released by Tell Tale games.

Congrats!

Here's where your research can start: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeksearch.php?action=search&objecttype=geeklist&q=iphone&B1=Go

I personally got all the Knizia's... All three of them! And Zooloretto, Kolonists (before it was pulled) and some free "generic" boardgames (reversi, go, etc.).

"BGG" is the obvious game-related non-game app to get!

For a wider range of games, I'd recommend you follow Touch Arcade for news and reviews.

Have fun!

I use appshopper to notify me when price drops-- I like giving so many apps a go that I don't feel any need to get them right away. Lots of apps drop prices now and again, so it works out well.

Games
I like marple (logic puzzle), flight control, croke (surprisingly fun), euchre lite, wild west (free pinball, cool graphics), doodle jump, set
I tend to go through fads with most of these. played some obsessively for weeks, then haven't touched them.

Labyrinth LE is a cool demo.
Other apps include stanza for ebooks, ozweather (bundled weather app is crap for Australia), metlink for public transit info, tweetie for twitter, pw (password wallet) for secure passwords, remote (apple -to control itunes), air sharing for local docs/wifi data storage, fring for IM, ebay, syncbook for local notes that i can sync to my mac, shazam (amazing music recognition thingy) and a bunch of synths (bebot, jasuto, hexatone, pianofly, sunvox, noiseio...) that I don't really know how to use properly, but that are cool to muck about with. Smacktalk has many uses.

Have fun!
