Europe Engulfed at next convic anyone?

Post by bsmith » Tue Jul 24, 2007 3:35 pm

Anyone up for this? Might be good for a 2-day gaming weekend, and Convic is coming up in a month or so.

REALLY want to play this - but I can't confirm I can come to Convic for the two days (and definitely not on Friday night).

I'll see what I can do - and let you know by next Eurogamesfest!

I'd like to try this too, but 2 whole days? Imagine how many ASL scenarios we can play in 2 days Ben... :D

ASL is like a tasty snack - you can have one at any time, like on Thursday nights. But sometimes you don't want 5 packs of chips, you want a whole banquet.

No one disputing that, champ! :D

Ben - do you have the 1st edition or 2nd Edition EE? I have the 1st Ed - I know there are very slight map changes on the 2nd one.

Anyone here pre-ordered Asia in Flames? I'll make it a new year's resolution for 2008 to play a 5 player game of EE and AE combined...

If you play fast :) Slow ASL is like pulling teeth.. Well, someone else's teeth. It's not pleasant.

I've got 1st edition EE, I'm interested in finding out what the changes are. If you like EE Christian you would totally *love* Gary Grigsby's World At War: A World Divided.

Count me in for Asia Engulfed (which I think is what you mean rather than Asia in Flames). I have been thinking of preordering it. Anyway, I will probably get it anyway.

Is that a Computer or Board game?

BTW Ben, have you ever played the full 1939 EE campaign?

I've never played the full campaign. In fact I only played a few years of the 1939 campaign via Cyberboard before I resigned.
That was years ago, I know a lot more about the politics of WW2 now so my second game should run smoother!

World at War is a turn-based computer game. It does for grand strategic what Combat Mission does for tactical. It can support 5 players; Germany, Japan, the Soviet Union, the Western Allies, and China.

Rules we overlooked in our game this saturday:

5.43 If the designated area contains enemy units, Infantry and Militia
units may not participate in the Breakthrough Movement Phase unless
they currently have at least three remaining steps of strength (Armor,
Ground-Support, Airborne & Cavalry may participate regardless
of current strength).

(I wasn't paying attention if inf units had 3 steps)

9.527 GERMAN OCCUPATION OF VICHY FRANCE: The Germans
(only) may occupy Vichy-controlled France on any Axis Operational
Movement Phase after the Western Allies have declared war on Vichy
France, or on any Axis Player-turn in 1941 or later where one or more
supplied British, American, or Free French Ground Units are within
any area on the Atlantic coast from Andalucia to Denmark (excluding
Gibraltar), or after Italy surrenders or is conquered, whichever occurs
first. As soon as allowed by the above, A German ground unit is allowed
to Operationally enter Marseille, and by doing so it completes
the Occupation of Vichy France. No other Vichy Areas may be Operationally
entered until this Occupation occurs. All Vichy French units
are immediately and permanently removed from the game and
Marseille is treated in all ways as a conquered resource area after this
occupation.

(I didn''t count the 2 WERPS for Marseille, plus France is conquered, and French North Africa passes to Allied control).

Jeff, the USA had 1 SA to build in 1942 - they could have invaded Morocco on the first turn of the game - would have made the game much easier for the allies!
