Gaming at Games Laboratory?

Postby kracken » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:54 pm

I was boardgaming with some friends at Games Laboratory last weekend, and I noticed a few familiar faces from this community gaming there as well.

Is there a regular group happening at Games Laboratory?

Check out Melbourne Saturday Gamers on Facebook. They were there last Saturday.

Indeed we do hang out there every month !

It's a casual "drop down, play games, hang out" session, starting around 11:30am, and USUALLY on the 4th Saturday each month, but given the (money making) CCG tournaments that Games Lab runs, we occasionally have to shift over a week either side.

Next session is Saturday 26th July (https://www.facebook.com/events/639005179526660/)

I know some people are not Facebook fans, but there is no other free platform for event sharing that comes close, so for now we reside there : https://www.facebook.com/groups/msgamers/

There's also Dice, Boards & Cards which is on Sunday 27th https://www.facebook.com/groups/238753276328559/events/
And there's Meetings with the Board which has an odd schedule https://www.facebook.com/groups/Meeting ... Melbourne/ and here https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities ... 9460994331

Not to get this thread off track, but have you tried setting up a community in Google+?

Being able to set a community up as if it were a forum really helps. I wish the events had threaded conversation, but the ability to autoshare photos as you take them during the event is a really nice touch.

I am a big fan of Google+ and think the idea of a Melbourne Gamers community their could be fantastic.

From my perception though, 80% of people I meet are on Facebook, whereas whilst many will have a google account, I would say fewer than 50% of people I meet use Google+.

I promote it's use for private, ongoing gaming (mostly RPGs) as it's a great forum, photo and file sharing site. For a weekend gaming event where we were trying to build numbers, I don't think it would have been as effective. Now the groups "settled down" a bit, it's certainly something I'm going to consider when I have a little time.

Thanks for the idea :)
Ben
