Spotted this week at Mind Games (15/08/06)

Post by shawn_low » Tue Aug 15, 2006 4:34 pm

Hey boys and girls,

I was at mindgames Melbourne during lunch. Some new games of interest may be:

Caylus 2nd Ed $84 (ouch) My advice would be to wait for Julian's copies. Probably cheaper.

Blue Moon City $60

Go get them boys!

Yeah, I was there during lunch too. Are you the guy who went up to the miniatures section later on?

BTW, I bought Caylus. It's my birthday present to myself ;)

Is that the only AH expansion Frankie and does it come in a small pack? If so, I saw that down at Milsims last week.

I haven't seen Vinci there for 6 months, that doesn't sound right unless they had a damaged shipment recently?

Happy Birthday Talespinner.
Caylus is my arch nemesis. I've come last in the previous four games I've played. Doesn't matter if it's 3/4 or 5 players

Definitely correct - I picked up a copy on Monday for $27 - upgraded to the second edition at last. They only had one in the store, but they said they had a stack still at Cochranes Road (hence the sale).

Is there any fundamental difference with the second edition?

The major change is they've corrected the civilization chip errata (3 barbarians and only 1 specialization, instead of 2 and 2, I think Medicine was wrong too...). The rules were polished up, play aids for everyone now, slightly different icons on the map (smaller anchors and picks). There may be others.... not sure.

Is it worth getting? I mean, I've got Civilization and although I haven't played it, I understand it's the beginning and end of Civ games.
I also have Struggle of Empires. Between those two should I bother with Vinci? Or am I naive in asking gamers if I should spend yet more cash on a game I'll play 3 times :D

Well, it's a Euro - about 90 minutes, pretty generic. You're not going to feel like you're playing Greece or anything. Still, it's fast, it's out of print, ranked 88 on BGG, and it's only $27. I'd say go for it :)

Are you planning on playing it Doug or is it gonna go to storage pristine and unwrapped? :D
