PAX Aus 2014 - Enforcer registrations now open

Postby melissa » Tue Jun 10, 2014 4:36 pm

PAX Aus is getting closer and it will be an exciting year for Tabletop, with around 6000 square metres of space, new exhibitors and expansions to each of the four areas of Tabletop: Boardgames, Card games, Miniatures and Roleplaying games.

Applications to become an Enforcer for PAX Aus 2014 are now open.

The form is here: http://aus.paxsite.com/EnforceAus/ - it takes a little while to complete. Please try to fill it in with an appropriate amount of detail - but don't feel intimidated when you get to boxes and write "um, I did this once twenty years ago". The most important thing is that you include anything that is relevant - I even listed my Working with Children check as one of my "Amazing qualities".

When you select an Enforcer name ("Gaming handle/nickname"), be aware that people will call you by it. More than they probably will use your name.

As an Enforcer, you are the public face of the show, and while you may be based in Tabletop, you are expected to help attendees with whatever their questions might be. If you have questions about this, please let me know.

I'm really excited about what we will be doing this year. We're planning some great events as well as the big open gaming library. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Is this good for people like me who are too lazy to get tickets?

Depends - if you want to be put to work, then yes.

The expectation is that you'll be rostered for 6 hours a day during the show (Friday to Sunday). There's an option to come in Thursday for setup.

If you apply to be in Tabletop, you'll almost certainly (99%?) be in Tabletop but as an Enforcer, you're the face of the show, and you do what needs to be done - escorting lost children, helping people find a toilet, showing someone where the cloakroom is, etc.

Within the Boardgames part of Tabletop, some of the roles include
- Librarian (checkin & checkout of games)
- Library steward (managing the library - keeping it clean, games organised, helping people choose games)
- Event steward (setting up for events, keeping an eye on registrations)
- Exhibitor steward (playing nice with exhibitors)
- Roamer (keeping the playing area nice - looking out for dropped pieces etc - as well as teaching games/giving rules advice, where you can)

Tabletop also contains a CCG area, Miniatures demos and painting and an RPG area.

I've signed up. PAX starts the day after my thesis is due, so it would be nice to integrate with society again during the weekend.

I was a Roamer last year.

Hopefully, I'll be a Biter this year.
