Hi all,

New to the forum, and to gaming groups. Wondering whereabouts the calendar of events is (I saw mentions of a calendar in posts dotted around the forum, but still can't find it), or if someone could tell me when the next meets in January are, that would be great! Particularly interested in Billabong Boardgamers and Euro Games Fest meets at this stage.

Cheers,
E

Hi E(mily?),

Welcome!

I'm not sure if there's such a thing as a calendar (anyone?), but you can find out information about the different groups under the "Clubs & Events" section of this site...

In summary the main meets are (in alphabetical order):
- Billabong: $2, every Tuesday 7pm-11pm at Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre, 34 Amaroo Street, Chadstone
- Euro Games Fest: $4, 1st and 3rd Sundays 11am-arvo/evening at Bridge Club, 30-32 Cotham Rd, Kew
- Gamers@Dockers: Free, every Thursday evening at NAB building in Docklands

Have fun!

There used to be a calendar, but bsmith (the Admin) took it down a while back when upgrading the forums. Never seen it since.

But gerald has probably highlighted the main weekly gaming events (or in the case of Eurogamesfest, fortnightly) that happen in Melbourne. I attend Billabong's myself as its closer to home, but have attended Dockers for a while before that. At Dockers, you get a mix of wargamers and eurogamers (about 20 people average), with a large dose of players who play (and purchase) anything new. At Billabongs, you get a smaller crowd of mostly eurogamers, with perhaps between 8 to 15 people attending. Haven't been to Eurogamesfest for a while, but from the sounds of it, it's still going strong.

Hope to see you around!

KK

Cheers guys!

Went to MyCUBE Cafe on Lygon Street yesterday, to what I thought would be a fun way to meet people and socialise (and play boardgames, of course), only to find out the person to organised the Meetup group actually owns the joint and doesn't join in playing the games. What's more was that I had to pay $5 just to be there! I felt somewhat exploited, as you can imagine... but I did walk away having played a card game that I'd never played before, so it wasn't a complete loss.

I'm a noob at strategy games - I just started playing Carcassonne a few weeks ago (which I LOVE!) with only three expansions so far. Otherwise, I've only played "family" and word games like Cluedo, Pictionary, Cranium, Taboo and Scrabble etc., and enjoy two-player games like Othello, Pentago and Sequence. A couple of years ago, I bought Risk (because I'm a Seinfeld/Larry David fan) and took out all the little pieces, laid them all out, and then packed it away a few hours later. I've never played Risk.

So that's a bit about me. I had met a guy a couple of years ago who is a serious strategy gamer, and he did tell me about the meet at the Docklands, but I thought it would be way too involved and beyond my level of experience to attend.

Looking forward to attending the meets in the New Year!

Cheers,
[E]Liz[abeth]

(but you can call me Emily if you like 8) )

We had a calendar a while back, but it was never kept up-to-date. I need to find a calendar plugin which supports recurring events; The old one required manual entry, it was a pain in the butt.

That's one expansion too many.
I wouldn't bother getting anything beyond "Traders and Builders" and "inns and Cathedrals".

Your best bet is to hit EFG. It's on this sunday 11 onwards.

If you are a married Asian who was into unusual activities then that dude was probably me.

Yeah, you don't have to worry too much about your level of experience. Just try some games, find some styles you enjoy and have fun. The worst that can happen is that you come last.

Hi Frank. Long time no see. Actually, I did spy you perving at me at DFO Spencer Street a couple of months ago, but I didn't think you'd remember who I was. And I'm surprised you went along with the stories I spun as well... ah, fun times. Takes one [bovine guano artist] to know one [bovine-guano artist], as the saying goes.

See you on Sunday. 8)

I mustn't have recognised you as I would have said hello, so it must have been me just doing a routine DFO perv.

Ouch. Two can play at that game, but someone has to be the bigger person. Figuratively, not literally.

Skeletor - 1; Emily - 1.

Yay for the new calendar!
