Diplomacy Game - GAME OVER

Post by bsmith » Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:09 pm

Hey guys.

A few have requested we start an e-mail Diplomacy game so I've created one through the DpJudge website. When you sign in you have the option of specifying your choice of power.

The interface is a little cryptic so if you need help just drop a message here. I'll start the game when we have a full quota of seven players.

Game name: dockersgame
Password: dockers

deadlines

I think 2 day deadlines are way too short for an email game. Any chance of making it longer? I played a couple of email games before, and I thought 3 days was too short.

Ok, I've signed up as austria. I'll bring diplomacy along tomorrow, maybe I can try and teach a few people, and get a bit more interest.

I'm thinking of organising a face to face game soon too.

I'd be up for age of steam tonight, except I have a friend coming who wants to play power grid. So I'll definetelly play, if there's time.

I've logged in as power#2. Should I have logged in as a country?

When you sign up for the game you have the option of choosing your desired country. Seeing as you didn't make a choice you will be randomly assigned when the game starts.

We're still waiting for one more player.

I posted the easiest possible instructions on how to sign up for the game on the dockers mailing list. I didn't worry about telling people how to sign up for a specific country. I imagine people signed up as "POWER#..." will be randomly assigned. There may be some way to specify a power preference before the game starts.

Here are the instructions again:

http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/?variant=dppd

and register your email in the "New Here?" bit.

Then send an email to dpjudge@floc.net with the following contents

JOIN dockersgame yourPassword dockers
SIGNOFF

Only one place remaining! Does anyone want me to bring diplomacy tonight so I can explain the rules?

That'd be good if you can bring a copy along. I've read the rules but having someone actually explain things would be better I think.

Hey Ben

Did you get my message about gunboat/anonymous options in the dip game? We can't see which person is which power at the moment, since we all know each other, I think it would be better if the gunboat/anonymous option was turned off, so we know who we are talking to.

Hey Doug.

When I created the game I was unaware the Gunboat variant was enabled by default. Unfortunately because the game has started I cannot turn the option off. Normally I could do it with SET NOT VARIANT GUNBOAT but it must be done before the first user signs on to the game.

Here are the powers:

AUSTRIA Doug Partridge
ENGLAND Randall Payne
FRANCE Russell Alphey
GERMANY Frank LaTerra
ITALY Fraser McHarg
RUSSIA Paul Howell
TURKEY Hayden Scott

Stick these on the back of your toilet door or computer monitor as you see fit :)
